Styling a bookshelf is a little bit of science, a little bit of art, and a little bit of stress. It seems like you arrange, re-arrange and no matter what you do it NEVER turns out like the pictures on Pinterest.
Well, it’s about to get a lot simpler. Now, rarely does a bookshelf come together on the first attempt, but with a bit of practice and by following my tips, you’re bound to have a beautiful bookshelf in no time!
1. Something quirky:
Unique things are not as difficult to incorporate as you would think. When shopping to style your bookshelf, look for something that brings interest, but is still neutral. I went with this white and gold ceramic pineapple, the colors and style caught my eye!
Pro-tip: Use objects like this pineapple as a bookend.
2. Remove book covers:
I would say this is my MOST important tip. Since most of our books are business or self-motivation books, the covers on them weren’t particularly pretty. By taking the covers off of them, the books looked simpler and more uniformed. This way we can still see all the titles from the binding, and not to mention it looks 100 times better.
3. Follow your color scheme:
In this room we have a blue couch, so by adding these blue agate bookends I was able to bring the blue from the room to the shelf. I would recommend staying away from adding too many accents of your color, but by bringing it into a few of your pieces it can really pull the whole room together.
4. Something that adds character:
I got this record player as a christmas gift for my husband last year, and found the perfect spot for it on our bookshelf. Music is something that hubs and I enjoy on a daily, and by adding this piece on our shelf we are adding a little bit of our character into it. It also is a great conversation piece and we get so many compliments on it from our guests!
5. Something personal:
While traveling this summer, we picked up this gorgeous medallion at a street market in Barcelona that says Allah on it in Arabic. It was perfect for us because religion is a big part of our life and we will always be reminded of it in our home, and will always remember that we got it on our trip to Spain!
